Thanks for the endorsements, gentlemen.

I regularly clean carbs sent in from various internet sites, mostly VFR, NT650, etc, stuff i've owned and am very familiar with, but i've had good results with everything....so far !

Update:

Threw a new set of spark plugs in her and she started right up. Looks like it is running a bit rich according to plugs. Rode it around the block a few times. Could still use a bit of tuning, but does run. Will also include original turn signals (rears broken, but fronts good) and a helmet if interested. Like I said, i just don't want to tear into it again and agian anymore. the bike is fun for sure, but it is time to let it go.

Folks,

The biggest problem with the fram filters is the media. I'v seen two engine that were ruined because the media failed and plugged the sump screen.

I won't use them anymore.

John

Hey everyone,

Stripped the forks down today, find it super easy and didn't have a problem with anything (including the bottom drain bolt, which easily screwed out). I don't think there has been something this simple on the bike rebuild yet, no broken bolts or rusted screws.

I measured the length of the large spring in the forks and it was 436mm, definitely NOT the standard length as given in the manual of 426mm. I really doubt a previous owner put longer springs in, so anyone know why this would happen?

Cheers,
John

No clue. However several versions of the bike sold in Japan and Australia had round gages, one of those might work.

custom one shouldn't be very much. I'm a welder/fabricator and can do it myself, I just dont have the proper knowledge on what the bike requires for backpressure and frequency to be optimal

XRay, I think we have all been there, in some form or another. Take some deep breaths. breathe out. know that no matter what, you have people here who have never met you, couldn't pick you out of a police line-up, that care about your well being. Bikes in general are a brotherhood of contrarians and risk takers. Liking THESE bikes makes you special beyond that.
Whatever you have going on, I am sure someone here has been through it and would be willing to share their experience with you, I know I would. Sometimes a little insight does wonders, or knowing that whatever it is, you are not the only one.
PM me for more pearls of wisdom and more encouragement. do you want that in "DRILL INSTRUCTOR" or "SUPPORTIVE UNCLE"?
hang in there, the sun will rise on a new day tomorrow. TC

PM sent Walth. Looking forward to hearing about your 50,000 mile odometer!
Any opinions of why there are so many vtr's with low mileage found? I think a lot of people who got them were trying out riding for the first time and either didn't like it, or found out they did and moved up quickly to a bigger bike. not that I am complaining. Still looking for that perfect diamond of a find, sitting in someone's closet with 72 miles on it... wanting to sell it for $300 because it's just "so old".... "oh, and here are the original papers, and a box of spare parts that are still in the boxes, and some aftermarket parts I never put on it..." that's the dream everyone has, right? I think these bikes are going to be my 'crack'. I don't do drugs, and don't drink much, but my wife is still gonna hate this addiction as if it were a chemical dependency. Now I have to build a building to put all the stuff in THAT I DON'T EVEN HAVE YET.
You guys are all enablers, do you know that? Ain't no freakin' 12 step program gonna work with this... how does that go? "You have to want to do it yourself, no-one can do it for you" "give yourself over to a higher power" well, the higher power is better handling and tight twisty curves, not just raw horsepower of bigger bikes. glad to have joined the asylum.
Ride safe. TC
